For me when it comes to getting kids into books it's whatever's their thing. I think it's a parents role, when it comes to literature, to follow their interest, shower them with choices (use the libraries whilst we have them), and let them devour the books they love. Even if that means the same one again and again and again. Which it often does.
Whilst I'd love to read the wonderful Anthony Browne, Julia Donaldson and the likes all day long kids, I've often noticed, have their own agenda.
Our New Bestest Book has as it's USP noises. 8 in total. We have tractor noises and the bleeting, naying and barking of various farm animals. Charles loves noise in general and he loves this book. He keeps bringing it to me and we've been reading (and pressing) for quite some time. A book that has a 2 year old boy's un-divided attention is good by virtue of that fact alone.
Characteristic of these Ladybird books it's sturdy and colourful. Illustrations are by Paul Nicholls and it gets toddlers moo-ing and woof-ing like crazy things! As if they needed any encouragement!
